Flash Poetry

is an activity that I enjoy. I write a poem as I listen to an instrumental song that I've never heard before, and I drop the pen the second the music stops. No second thoughts, no edits- just the emotion and passion of the song translated into words. Here are six of mine. Try it sometime.

Walking In the Forest - Yiruma - Frames (2017)

Crunching steps over sticks and stones,

The creek babbles its wistful song.

The wind rustles, and spirits haunt

Their roots.

The forest’s soul aches and weeps

With sorrow and joy,

Bursting at the seems with

its secrets.

Come in and rejoice in the ups

And downs,

The lull and rise.

Your heart will race.

Your hands will shake.

Your very bones will shutter

As you behold the forest

Open.

Ashokan - Kyle McEvoy - Ashokan EP (2018)

Sometimes the hills

Roll on into oblivion

And you are left to

Ponder

If beginnings and ends

Exist

Or if it’s all just one

Continual story

The edges of fragmented

Chapters in our heads

Bleeding into each other

As we walk

Hymn Tune Prelude on Song 13 - Ralph Vaughan Williams - London Symphony Orchestra

When I look into his eyes

Galaxies unfold.

And the depth of the universe

Becomes more mesmerizing.

The warm autumn breeze swoops

Me through plains of greens and browns.

The stars twinkle

And seize my heart,

Begging me to hold onto this moment.

So I listen to their request.

And make room in my soul

For one more.

Just Me and You - Ramin Djawadi- The Mountain Between Us (2017)

Sands shift as time drifts by,

Erasing the footsteps.

History was held in the imprints of their grains.

Happy moments, wiped away by

The unfeeling wind.

I suppose,

Their love story was one to be forgotten.

Sincere feelings, one rainy day and haruhi's thoughts from the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya (feat. jem harding) - eminence symphony orchestra - a night in fantasia 2009 live

Clouds float along in the sky

As I lay and close my eyes

A world of whites, blues, and greens

Colors and sounds all in between

A shimmering lake made like glass

Reminds me of times of the past

Voices flit inside my head

Asking, wishing, my heart is fed

A dance in a meadow

Breadths of life infuse this place

This rift in time

So I wait, and watch, and listen

And peer

When will my little cloud appear?

A swell, a song, day turns to night

The birds in the valley take

Unceasing flight.

What will they find? Where will

they go?

Their beating feathers I

Wish to know.

And still I wait.

In my valley.

Warps - Koral Banko - 2018

Lilac and orange

Smear the horizon

As the sun rises

Brave enough to greet a new day

Just like you

Your soul is resilient

It is painted in strength.

Smoothed by will.

It is not black, like you may think.

Your soul shimmers

Catching the rays of the sun

And reflecting it back out

Into the world.

The light is warmer

Than it would have been

Had it not passed through you.

Bottom of the page fun fact #13: I started writing flash poetry my freshman year of college. I was bored to death one day in my dorm room, so I just started listening to music and writing. Voila…a weird passion project was born.
